There are three programs highlighted on this page: Stay in School Awards, Leap to Learning and Graduation Awards.
Stay in School Awards
Program Description
The Stay in School Awards are meant to recognize students who are doing exceptionally well given their personal circumstances and to encourage them to complete high school and continue into post-secondary education. A maximum of $300.00 can be awarded per student.
Criteria
- Students who have overcome a significant academic challenge successfully
- Students who demonstrate academic excellence
- Student who are well rounded
- Student who have overcome a challenging experience
Application Process
A referral agent such as a social worker, SchoolsPlus Outreach worker, Public Health nurse, or another relevant professional must complete all sections of this application and submit it to the fund manager.
Applications cannot be accepted if they are submitted from a child/youth or a family member/relative.

Leap to Learning
Program Description
The Leap to Learning program is designed to support educationally at risk children and youth meet their academic goals and reach their learning potential through tutoring.
Criteria
- Child or youth served by a partner agency and meets overall program eligibility
- Currently enrolled in elementary, junior high or high school or a government approved alternative school/courses
- Strong recommendation by their worker and approval by program manager
- Clear indication of how tutoring would help achieve the child’s educational goals
- Demonstrated need for tutoring support
- Evidence that all other funding options have been exhausted, including: municipal provincial and federal grant and subsidy programs; and youth and/or family resources.

Graduation Awards
Program Description
The Scotia Capital Graduation Awards are meant to recognize students in care who are meeting their immediate educational goals and are graduating from either junior high (grade 8 or 9) or high school (grade 12). Junior high graduates are awarded $50.00 and high school graduates are awarded $100.00.
Criteria
- All students who meet the general program eligibility and successfully graduate from either junior high or high school are eligible to receive this award
- They do not have to receive a Stay in School Awards in order to receive a graduation award; this may be awarded automatically for meeting the general program eligibility and graduating.
