Our History
Helping Vulnerable Kids Thrive Since 1997
There have always been gaps in the system for our most vulnerable children. Governments and organizations do their best to provide for at-risk kids, but not all their necessities can be met.
That’s why the Children’s Aid Foundation of Halifax was formed in 1997. The Foundation’s job was to raise funds to ensure vulnerable kids and youth got what they needed, when they needed it. Tutoring. Oral health care. Camps. Sports and recreation. Emergency care. Our mandate was kept deliberately broad so we could be flexible enough to respond to the changing conditions and the changing needs of the young people we serve.
Since our start as a fund-raising arm of the former Children’s Aid Society of Halifax, we’re proud to say we have provided over $1,000,000 to enhance the lives of over 10,000 kids and youth. In the past year alone, we helped 1,350 kids by providing support and services worth over $200,000.
Our mandate has broadened and so has our name. In 2021, as a reflection of the fact that we have long served kids and youth throughout the entire province, we officially became the Children’s Aid Foundation of Nova Scotia.
We continue to partner with communities to provide Nova Scotia’s vulnerable kids and youth with what they need to thrive.
